This past Sunday was my church's 30th anniversary so the celebration was grand and all cultures were representing to the fullest. It was all very exciting and fun. And, I decided to keep my gele on for my blog just to share a bit of my culture with you; it's been a while since I've infused my cultural style with my everyday style.
So the Nigerian (Yoruba) word, gele: (geh-LAY), refers to the headwrap that I have on my head. It is usually high quality fabric that combines flexibility and stiffness to achieve the various styles that it can be wrapped into. They are often worn to church and any event that calls for celebration. And, because they have so little movement while on your head, they are often confused for hats!
Until next time!
